Workshop chair or stool: how to choose
The right seat depends on the worktop height and how long you spend sitting. An 890 mm workbench needs a high chair with a footrest: the polyurethane footrest chair adjusts the seat up to 1250 mm overall height, and the backrest in both height and depth. For short tasks or low workstations, the beech swivel stool is enough, gas-lift adjustable from 460 to 640 mm, with 5 glides. The wooden chair with castors and backrest is the middle ground for labs and production departments. Load capacity 110 kg for all models; prices start from around €135.
ESD environments
Where work is carried out on circuit boards and electronics, the antistatic work chair has a dissipative cover and conductive castors, with the seat adjustable from 470 to 600 mm. It pairs with the assembly and electronics workbenches and the conductive bins in the bins and boxescategory.
A simple rule: when seated with your feet supported, your elbow should be 5–10 cm above the worktop. If you can't get there even with the seat at its highest, you need the footrest model or a height-adjustable workbench.
Castors or glides
Castors are useful if you move along the workbench or between two workstations; glides if the seat is high or the floor slopes. To complete the workstation, see also the anti-fatigue mats in workbench components and accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Which chair for an 890 mm high workbench?
A chair with a footrest: the polyurethane swivel footrest chair reaches 1250 mm overall height and lets you work at a standard workbench in the correct position. The 460–640 mm stool is too low for a workshop workbench.
Is a wooden seat suitable for a mechanical workshop?
Yes: varnished beech is easy to clean and doesn't soak up oil the way fabric does. Where solvents are used or in damp environments, the polyurethane seat is more resistant.
What is an antistatic chair?
A dissipative fabric cover and conductive castors discharge the operator's static charges to earth: it is needed in EPA areas where sensitive electronic components are handled. It must be used together with a conductive floor or mat.
