Workshop tool drawer cabinet: how to choose

A workshop drawer cabinet is chosen on the basis of three factors: how much the contents weigh, how many drawer heights you need and where it will go — under a workbench, freestanding or on castors. All Fami drawer cabinets have full-extension drawers, a perforated base and slotted sides for fitting dividers and small bins, and a cylinder lock with key.

Master: the modular workshop drawer cabinet

The Master drawer cabinets are the widest range: widths 27 and 36 EH (1 EH = 17 mm), heights 850, 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm, 5 to 10 drawers that can be combined with fronts from 50 to 300 mm. The load capacity of each drawer is set by the operator — 50, 75 or 100 kg — according to what it holds. The 850 mm model is also used as a drawer block to fit under the workbench. Prices start from around €270 for a Master drawer cabinet with 7 drawers.

Master DE and Flexa: heavy loads or limited space

The Master DE drawer cabinets are the version for moulds, heavy tools and spare parts: reinforced structure, width 714 and 1020 mm, depth 726 mm, total load capacity up to 2000 kg. Flexa drawer cabinets , on the other hand, are compact, 600 mm deep, with one-drawer-at-a-time opening to prevent tipping and provision for floor or wall fixing: suitable for labs, maintenance and workstations where space is tight.

Small parts and components

For screws, seals and electronics there are the Visual Box small parts drawer units : transparent drawers from 78 to 242 mm high, 600 mm wide, to stand on the workbench, fix to the wall with the dedicated frame or mount on shelving. They cost a few euros per module and can be combined in columns.

Dividers, tops and accessories

A drawer cabinet only pays off if it is organised inside. In the dividers, tops and accessories subcategory you'll find drawer divider sets for every front height and EH size, Pikpad trays, the raising plinth and tops to fit on the drawer cabinet: multiplex, rubber-coated steel, stainless steel or PVC-coated with 3 raised edges. The top turns the drawer cabinet into a small worktop.

Where the drawer cabinet goes

Measure the space before ordering: a 27 EH Master is about 560 mm wide, a 36 EH about 720 mm, both 726 mm deep. If the drawer cabinet is going under an existing workbench, check the clear height under the worktop, because the 850 mm block stands on the floor while the lower models hang from the workbench frame. For shared workstations, choose keyed-alike locks across several drawer cabinets, so a single key opens them all.
