Workshop tool trolley: which one you really need

A workshop trolley has two jobs: carrying tools to where the work is done and keeping them organised while it moves. The choice depends on what you carry. Tools and spare parts call for drawers; workpieces, boxes and components call for shelves; small parts call for open-fronted bins. Fami trolleys are fitted with rubber castors that don't mark the floor.

Tool trolleys with drawers

The tool trolleys with drawers are Master drawer cabinets on castors: 3 to 6 full-extension drawers with a perforated base for dividers, push handle, heights from 822 to 1022 mm and a total load capacity of 330 kg. The best-selling model has 6 drawers (2x75, 3x100, 1x150 mm). It is the classic tool trolley for maintenance technicians and mechanics. Prices start from around €460.

Clever shelf trolleys

The Clever workshop trolleys with shelves are used to move material between assembly workstations or from the warehouse to the line: shelves with raised edges, height-adjustable middle shelf, load capacity 300 kg, in two sizes (Small and Large). They can be extended with hinged doors, side and rear perforated panels and additional shelves. The Clever trolley with castors starts from around €180.

Picking, small parts and special trolleys

The small parts and picking trolleys hold 100 to 132 Picking Box Air bins on one or two sides: all of a department's screws and fixings follow the operator. Special trolleys are equipped with hooks, perforated panels or tool supports, or designed for tyres. For machine tools there are the Combi NC CNC tool trolleys with ISO 40, ISO 50 or HSK A63 tool holders.

Castors and floors

Rubber castors work well on smooth concrete, resin and tiles; on uneven floors or floors with wide joints, a larger diameter is better. Consider the route too: a 570 mm wide trolley fits through a standard door, but double-sided picking configurations exceed 750 mm in depth. If the trolley is parked beside a machine, the push handle and castor brakes stop it from moving with vibration.
