Shadow board: visual control of tools
The 5S principle is simple: every tool has an outline, and an empty outline can be seen from a distance. Fami Pikpad 5S Shadow Tool Box trays have raised outlines in a material that does not scratch tools; they are used on the workbench, inserted into the drawers of Master drawer cabinets or mounted on the perforated panel using the aluminium profile (up to 1938 mm) and upright brackets. Table stands hold them at an angle in front of the operator. Prices start from around €16.
The tray costs little and requires no changes to the workbench: it is the first concrete step in a 5S project, even before panels and drawer cabinets, and it moves with the operator from one workstation to another.
Where it pays off most
Maintenance and machine set-up stations, where a tool left in a machine is a risk; assembly cells with tools shared between shifts; inspection labs with expensive instruments. The tray is handed over and returned with a visual check, with no inventory count.
Completing the system
The tool hooks and accessories for tools that do not fit an outline, perforated panels on which to fix the profiles, and, for drawer dividers, the drawer cabinet accessories.
Frequently asked questions
Can the outlines be customised?
Catalogue Pikpad trays have predefined outlines for standard tool sets. For outlines made to fit your own tools, contact us: we will check customisation options and minimum quantities with Fami.
Do they fit in the drawers of Master drawer cabinets?
Yes, Pikpad trays are sized to the EH format of Master drawers and sit alongside the metal dividers. The compatible format is shown on the tray's product page.
How are they fixed to the perforated panel?
With the aluminium profile for Pikpad trays, hooked onto the panel or upright with the dedicated brackets: the tray rests in the inclined profile and slides out when you need to take it to the workpiece.
