FIFO and LIFO flow racks
Fami FIFO and LIFO flow racks for lean production: shelving units with 6 or 7 inclined shelves and a box stop edge, shelving units with 4 tilting frames, also on castors, load capacity 100 kg per shelf, widths from 1028 to 2671 mm. Material moves by itself to the picking point.

Flow racks: FIFO, LIFO and line-side supermarkets
In a flow rack the shelf is inclined: boxes slide towards the picking face and the operator always finds the container in position. In the FIFO version you load from the rear and pick from the front, so the first batch in is the first used; in the LIFO version you load and pick from the same side. Fami units have 6 or 7 inclined slotted shelves with a box stop edge, depth 300 mm, load capacity 100 kg per shelf, inclination adjustable from 5 to 30° and widths up to 2671 mm. Prices start from around €455.
The benefit is measured in steps and errors: the operator does not search for the right container and the replenisher loads without interrupting picking. That is why the flow rack is the basic module of line-side supermarkets and assembly cells.
Tilting frames
The shelving unit with 4 tilting frames adjusts the angle of each shelf independently and is available on castors: it is the mobile supermarket to bring up to the line and take back to the warehouse for replenishment.
What to put on them
Use Euro Box and RK Box boxes on the inclined shelves, open-fronted bins for small components. Units with horizontal shelves from the same series are in shelving units.
Frequently asked questions
FIFO or LIFO: which do I need?
FIFO (first in, first out) when material has an expiry date or batches to be used in order: loading from the rear, picking from the front, and access from two sides is required. LIFO when all that matters is having the container in position: loading and picking from the front, and the shelving can stand against a wall.
Do boxes really slide on a slotted shelf?
Yes, with an inclination of 5° or more, polypropylene boxes with a flat base slide down to the box stop edge. For heavy boxes or rough bases the inclination is increased; the angle is adjusted with the brackets.
How much can an inclined shelf hold?
100 kg per shelf with a distributed load. The box stop edge holds the boxes in place; the load must still be spread across the full width of the shelf.
